About Us
Who we are
The Homebirth Association of North Dallas (H.A.N.D.) was "born" in June of 2002. It is simply a coalition of people in the north Dallas area with an interest in supporting midwifery and homebirth. We are made up of parents (and expectant parents), childbirth educators, doulas, midwives, lactation educators, and anyone else who shares our vision.
Our mission statement
Our mission is to promote midwifery and homebirth by educating the public about the safety and benefits of homebirth and by providing resources and support to those who choose to birth at home.
What we do
H.A.N.D. meets the third Tuesday of each month (location varies). Every other month we have a meeting with a guest speaker giving a presentation on some topic related to pregnancy, labor, birth, or the postpartum period and infant care. During the other months we will have social events - informal discussions, park days, cook outs, etc. We want to build a network of support for those in the homebirth community. It is often difficult for mothers planning a home birth when they don't know anyone else who has ever done such a thing. Through H.A.N.D. you can build friendships with like minded individuals and find answers to questions you may have about birthing at home. You can benefit from the experiences of others and obtain help in locating a midwife and other birth support personnel. H.A.N.D. has a
discussion list to keep members informed of upcoming events and to provide a forum for questions and support between meetings. We welcome your suggestions on how we can spread the word to others in our area that homebirth is not only possible, but often preferable to hospital birth.
